How to get an ADHD assessment in Adelaide right now
- Your regular GP — the usual first step. Depending on the rules in South Australia, a trained GP may be able to assess you, or they can refer you to a psychiatrist.
- A private psychiatrist — you’ll usually need a GP referral to claim a Medicare rebate, and waits are often long.
- Public mental health services — available in some areas, usually for more complex needs.

Blood tests and ECG in South Australia
If ADHD medication is being considered, doctors usually order a blood test and an ECG first. In South Australia these are typically done at Clinpath Pathology, Australian Clinical Labs or SA Pathology. Blood tests are usually bulk-billed, and not every collection centre does ECGs.
