How to get an ADHD assessment in Perth right now

  • Your regular GP — the usual first step. Depending on the rules in Western Australia, a trained GP may be able to assess you, or they can refer you to a psychiatrist.
  • A private psychiatrist — you’ll usually need a GP referral to claim a Medicare rebate, and waits are often long.
  • Public mental health services — available in some areas, usually for more complex needs.

Blood tests and ECG in Western Australia

If ADHD medication is being considered, doctors usually order a blood test and an ECG first. In Western Australia these are typically done at Clinipath Pathology, Western Diagnostic Pathology or Australian Clinical Labs. Blood tests are usually bulk-billed, and not every collection centre does ECGs.
