How to get an ADHD assessment in Geelong right now
- Your regular GP — the usual first step. Depending on the rules in Victoria, a trained GP may be able to assess you, or they can refer you to a psychiatrist.
- A private psychiatrist — you’ll usually need a GP referral to claim a Medicare rebate, and waits are often long.
- Public mental health services — available in some areas, usually for more complex needs.

Blood tests and ECG in Victoria
If ADHD medication is being considered, doctors usually order a blood test and an ECG first. In Victoria these are typically done at Melbourne Pathology, Dorevitch Pathology or Australian Clinical Labs. Blood tests are usually bulk-billed, and not every collection centre does ECGs.

Rules for prescribing ADHD medication, including stimulants, are set by each state and territory and have been changing. In some circumstances a psychiatrist’s involvement is required.

Our assessments are done entirely by telehealth, so when we open in Victoria you’ll be able to see us from anywhere in Geelong and the Surf Coast — Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula, Torquay and the Surf Coast, and out to Colac.
